Zhan Vensanovych Beleniuk, a half Rwandan and a Ukrainian won gold at Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
He defeated Viktor Lorincz of Hungary 5-1 in the men's Greco-Roman 87-kilogram wrestling final.
He was the first Ukrainian to win a gold medal in Olympic Games.
Beleniuk was born in 1991 in Kyiv to a Ukrainian mother and a father from Rwanda. His father, Ndagijimana Vincent, was a pilot who studied in Kyiv at the National Aviation University.
Apart from wrestling, Beleniuk is a law-maker where he also serves as a deputy in the Ukrainian parliament. He represents President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Servant of the People party.
Beleniuk began wrestling in the year 2000 at 9 years of age.
Back in March 2017, Beleniuk visited Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee after winning the silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
