Learning languages is becoming more and more important for students who wish to study and work abroad or communicate with a global audience by any means whatsoever. Yet the question remains how can students be able to communicate faster for them to be able to communicate with the various people on a global scale.
Meanwhile, there are a lot of language teachers that are regarded as a solution to this question, however, it did not help most of the language students for the simple reason that some of the teachers are also second speakers and that they only learn how to teach.
Linguist Mathew Youlden and founder of the Babbel app explains that there are steps to learning a new language and debunks popular myths about language learning. Having already studied over 20 languages, the Babble’s Ambassador, and working as a lecturer, Mathew believes that with the right tools and a healthy dose of fun, anyone can learn a new language.
He believes that learning a language is like any other skill which needs practice and discipline. "Language has its own way, it is a daily practice skill," he says.
Linguists argue that the fact children learn languages faster is because they are more intelligent and natural at the time of infancy.
With the examples, they argue that for instance, someone who spends 6 hours a week learning is not the same as someone who spends 30 hours a week studying.
Students need to spend time learning using social media, online platforms, watching videos, reading, writing, listening and practicing every day, as, for most students, speaking is a challenging skill because of the fear of making mistakes.
Therefore one has to look at the factors that have a positive and negative effect on the learning process, for instance memorizing, doing only what the teacher says, being satisfied with what you learn, all these affect negatively the process. The students should not be satisfied as long as he or she is not fluent, they have to put a lot of energy, commitment and doing more research in order to facilitate the process.
The best way to learn a language fast is to love the language you want to learn, by doing so you will be able to spend time and be persistent. After that, you start by eliminating the fear of making mistakes by having a daily challenge with the purpose of learning from the mistakes that you can make.
A successful person in any field learns from his or her mistakes and has the discipline to keep doing what it takes to be successful even when there is no more motivation.
