Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor accompanied by the National Examination School Inspection NESA has begun a country-wide tour on the implementation of the harmonization policy on school fees.
Vianney Augustine Kavutse, the Head of the Department of Basic Education, Ministry of Education told the Campus that so far a total of 160 schools have been toured in the process.
“The tour is going well we just toured almost 160 schools in two days,” Kavutse told the campus.
The officials will inspect over 200 schools both in Kigali and the upcountry.
Prior to the release of the policy, there were claims of the parents crying out of the hiking of schools by some schools.
The new instructions regulating the public and government-subsidized schools in which students will benefit from capitation grants to complement parents' contribution were released last month purposely to end significant disparities in parents’ contribution across Rwandan schools.
No one is allowed to request students for extra tuition that are not listed in the ministerial order as per the Ministry of education.
The Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of education and NESA have organized an education week and a joint inspection to assess the status of implementation of school fees guidelines and other education-related issues from October.
The function will be held in districts selected from all provinces and the city of Kigali.
Every student according to the instructions must wear an authorized school uniform while at school, or when traveling from or to school. The school is responsible for determining the color, style and design of the school uniform.
However, the fabric of the school uniform must be a solid color. No parent is obliged to buy school uniforms or any other material from their child’s school, but they can if they wish to do so.
The instructions will be implemented starting with the 2022/2023 school year, with an exception of the uniform instruction to be implemented within the 2023/2024 school year.
