My dreams were to become a medical doctor since I was in high school. At that time, I had a picture of a doctor I wanted to become in my head. I was dreaming of becoming a specialist in the medical career of pediatrics.
This field of Biotechnology started rising after the harsh period of the Covid-19 pandemic where Biotechnology companies and universities started collaborating so that they can find Vaccines.
It is true that Biotechnology as a medical faculty has only recently started to gain recognition of recent when the Biotechnology.
Generally, the general public does not understand well inclusive of the educated about Biotechnology and by the time I completed high school, I didn't know anything about Biotechnology due to the fact that the faculty was new among Rwandan high school students and many people in general.
Despite I had scanty information about Biotechnology I was forced to join the faculty when Rwanda National Board released the national exam results.
I had applied many times for medical schools, and I couldn’t be admitted by this time, Instead, I was admitted to the University of Rwanda College of Science and Technology to study Biotechnology.
One night I was dining with my parents discussing matters of joining the university and they said: "You can go to the university temporarily as we search for a suitable university abroad to further study medicine." but I yelled at them because I had already thought about Biotechnology.
By the time I reached the campus, University lectures were initially on the introductions as lecturers were basically introducing the courses and all about what Biotechnology is.
“While Technology generally aims at creating tools to empower man, Biotechnology aims to change man himself, to better fit him to the world” I remember a lecturer telling us.
I’m in Second class and intend to master in Biotechnology. So far, my passion for Biotechnology had increased and I enjoy the course especially modules on Molecular Biology, Medical Biotechnology, and Industrial Biotechnology.
As of now, I want to advise students to enroll in Biotechnology because of profitability after school life where graduates are able to employ in different fields.
On a country level, Biotechnology can be a very helpful tool for developing countries with skilled personnel in the Agriculture, Medical sector, and industrial sectors.
