Rwandan Authors new book Le Genocide Perpetre Contre Le Tutsi Du Rwanda Explique A Sens Enfants will give out a detailed account of atrocity during the Genocide against the Tutsi.
A bigger percentage of today’s youth in Rwanda were born after genocide against the Tutsi and it’s a major challenge that the history of the genocide is a hearsay to their ears. Meanwhile, the new book “Le Genocide Perpetre Contre Le Tutsi Du Rwanda Explique A Sens Enfants” loosely translated as “The Genocide Perpetrated Against the Tutsi explained to his children” is an answer to the question on the table.

Commenting on the genesis of writing the book, the author told the audience gathered at Genocide Memorial Amphitheatre, Gisozi is a response to the student’s inquiry requesting him to write down something about Genocide against the Tutsi in an easy manner.
“I was a teacher in Canada and a student asked me. Could do you write a book that would explain young people the Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda in an easy way,” the author answered the audience during the book launch.
The book which was translated in Spanish, German and Kinyarwanda is a timely response to the contemporary challenges related to the Genocide against the Tutsi and a tool to support memory transmission to the young generation.
The historical novel delves into the question on how parents can discuss the ugly past of the Genocide against the Tutsi to their children. Additionally, the book provides innovative and artistic tools to engage both parents and educators in fostering a deeper understanding of this historical event, the Genocide against the Tutsi and explain it to children.
While emphasizing on the significance of the book, Fred Mutanguha, the CEO of the Aegis Trust said the book serves as a beacon of remembrance, offering a thoughtful and a practical guide for parents and educators in the delicate and challenging task of teaching young people the painful yet the crucial history of our country.
The AEGIS Trust CEO described the book as “a significant milestone in the ongoing battle against genocide ideology” emphasizing that younger generation should be equipped with knowledge and understanding needed to build a future free from the shadows of the past.
The writer uses the characters of Yannick Namahire, Alice Namahire and Yvan Namahire the children asking their Proffessor Jean De Dieu Namahire the first hand information related to Genocide against the Tutsi.
His book gives detailed stages of genocide such as classification, symbolization, dehumanization, organization, polarization, preparation and extermination and denial and we are now in negationist those who opposes what happened.
Assoumpta Mugiraneza, the co-founder and director of the IRIBA Center for Multimedia Heritage urged the parents to read the books to raise the reading culture among Rwandans in general.
“You should advise your children to read books and there are many libraries available including Kacyiru book stores and libraries and other available libraries,” he said adding “As we inspire the youth to read the books we should not forget the fact to deconstruct the genocide ideology.”
Nelson Mbarushimana, the Director of Rwanda Education Board, said partnership plans are underway to foster the implementation of history teaching in lower primaries successfully.
He said “We are working with the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement (MINIBUMWE) to see how the teachers can be trained.
“Previously, the history books could not reach lower primaries. However, we are revising the curriculum to see that the history lessons reach lower primaries next year, the revised history books related to genocide will already be available to reach school students,” he clarified.
