High school students have shown total excitement having gone back to school after eight months at home since early March this year. On top of their excitement, students whose schools are located in Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe districts of the southern province plus those located in Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts of the western province started reporting at their respective boarding schools early today.
Being few in numbers alongside a well facilitated transportation order, students who re-opened today were so thankful as reported by habiyaremye Jean Piere from Bugarama Secondary School located in Rusizi district.
Following the first day of re-opening that took place yesterday 29th October 2020, transportation arrangements were clearly set by the Ministry of Education and its collaborative partners who facilitated students in different ways including the Ministry of Health, RURA, and RBC plus the City of Kigali.
Students observed the Covid-19 measures and they had to find their transport buses from the Kigali Stadium in Nyamirambo to their schools as one away of preventing their crowding in Nyabugogo international bus park.
In phase one of school re-opening, only students in the candidate classes both S.6 and S.3 plus S.5 students without forgetting those in Level 3-5 under the TVET program are expected to resume physical classrooms.
Additionally, all levels of TTC (1,2&3 Levels) are also expected to resume whereas primary five and primary six pupils will resume physical classes next week on Monday.
According to Benjamin Kageruka, the Head of Education Quality Assurance Department at the Ministry of Education, all students in the above-mentioned classes are expected to be at school no later than Sunday 1st November to the boarding students as lessons will begin early Monday on 2nd November 2020.
He encouraged teachers to be near their students in order to enable them to cope up with the new normal learning conditions. According to the recently released school calendar, students are to begin their second term after a couple of revision weeks helping them to cope up.
In the next phase, students will start reporting at their respectful schools on 20th, 21st, and 22nd November enabling all secondary levels (S.1, S.2, S.4) plus all TVET levels to get back to school as studies will kick off on 23rd November.
