The University of Rwanda has admitted 31 students consisting of 13 girls and 18 boys from Gabo who will be pursuing their bachelor's studies in Rwanda under the agreement that was signed between the two countries.
The agreement that was entered into by the two countries is in accordance with the 'Agence National des Bource du Gabon' the Gabonese National agency responsible for students' bursary.
The students will initially be registering into UR Campuses, Gikondo, Nyarugenge, Huye and Rukara campuses
Prof. Nosa O. Egiebor, UR Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research exchanged gifts with the head of the delegation of the Gabonese students, as a sign of warm welcome to Rwanda this week.
"This is for you. Take it back to your country Gabon as an indication of our warm welcome to you and your students." Prof. Nosa O. Egiebor said while welcoming the delegation.
Professor Nosa O. Egiebor however, commended that due to the fact that the Gabonese students are only proficient in English, they should first be assessed by the lecturers to determine how they will be helped during other courses delivery.
Dr. Papias Musafiri Malimba, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Rwanda for Planning and Management said the students will be studying under the scholarship of Gabon for the entire cost of education by the Gabonese government.
Regarding the amount of money these Gabonese students will pay, Musafiri confirmed that the students will pay the same amount that the local students pay.
According to the University of Rwanda, the reception of these students will help to expose the quality of education that Rwanda provides.
Statistics indicate the number of international students is still low but the University of Rwanda is developing its pedagogy and programs so as to be more attractive to those who need them and compete internationally.
Currently, international students account for just two percent of the university’s population, and the goal is to receive as many as 10 percent according to the University’s administration.
