The Minister of Education has expressed optimism following a big number of PLE candidates failing mathematics and English subjects emphasizing that combative mechanisms are soon to be installed to bolster up the student’s performance.
The Minister of Education Gaspard Twagirayezu expressed this during the publication of the National Examination yesterday.
He acknowledged an overall success of students in various subjects noting that while many have excelled there are still areas that require attention particularly in Mathematics, English and Science subjects.
“Generally, students performed well in different subjects. However, there is a problem especially in Mathematics, English and Science subjects," he said.
To address these issues, the Ministry is implementing several measures including enhancing teacher training and more rigorous inspections.
"We will continue to put more effort in the way we teach," Twagirayezu emphasized, highlighting the ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education.
"Science and Mathematics are important, especially in today’s world," he said, stressing the importance of these subjects.
In his speech, Twagirayezu also noted that students from both private and public learning institutions are showing improvement but emphasized the dire need of improvement of these schools.
"What we have to do is to increase the strength of both public and private," he said.
These efforts will include enhancing teacher’s training and providing well-resourced facilities such as laboratories to help students do practical courses
