Remera campus handball team is a newly registered member of Rwandan Handball federation with determination of winning second division league title. The team’s plan is getting a promotion to the first division of National handball league.
Remera Campus as one of the university of Rwanda campuses has always adopted sport favoring policies to help students get recreation and boost their learning stamina though Remera campus took it more serious and enabled their handball team registered in National Handball league second division with commitment and winning the title despite other obligations as students.
Hakizimana Celestin, Remera campus handball team coach and former national handball team player told the campus that “when Covid-19 pandemic started, we were doing great because we played an away match and made a draw. This was not too bad being our first match of the national handball league. During this period, we are joining our hands with all Rwandans and the world in general to fight against this pandemic so that we get back to normalcy”.
Coach Celestin kept sharing that the team expects to experience financial difficulties as a result of decreased budget and the performance of players might also reduce the pace. But we will do our best to manage the team so the vision remains winning the National handball league second division title.
In his words, Coach Hakizimana Celestin told The Campus that one month period is not enough to compete for the league but we don’t have choices unless doing it. The only requirement will be commitment and persistence from the entire team.
Remera campus handball team registered in the 2019 commemoration tournament and managed to reach quarter-finals finding themselves in a pool of Police Handball club, ADEGI handball, and Makelele university handball team where they lost all games. The team also registered in Heroism competition early 2020 and was knocked out by Police handball club. Losing all these games did not weaken the team’s spirit and the goal continues.
